Semester 1
In Semester 1 of Chemistry, we learned how to properly write CER (Claim- Evidence- Reasoning) paragraphs, along with learning how to accurately perform and write labs. After learning skills used to identify substances, such as finding density, volume, solubility, etc., we were given a bottle of "sludge" in our groups. Hypothetically, the sludge was going to be dumped into the Blackstone River if deemed okay by the Pawtucket government. However, to declare whether or not it was safe for the company to set up in Pawtucket, the government needed our help. The sludge contained a list of unknown substances.. Using the skills we were taught, we were able to uncover to truth hidden within the bottles of sludge.

Semester 2
In Semester 2 of Chemistry, we identified how one is able to predict the smell of a substance based on its chemical formula and skeletal structure. After obtaining these skills, we went to Providence College to make our own esters, or sweet smells, out of a variety of chemicals. Additionally, we discussed how to find the number of calories within different foods, entropy, scientific notation, MOLES, and how to find formula mass. By using some of these skills, such as formula mass and MOLES, we were able to measure and make our own cookies.
