Semester 1
In Semester 1 of English 10, we began by reading Karen Hesse's Witness and completing an essay based on courage. We also read Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. Between the two readings, a number of elaborate vocabulary, which is used throughout our writings and as we read more books, was uncovered. The vocabulary taught has been used to create a stronger tenth grade vocabulary in each student. Using persuasive writing, we wrote an essay to someone we know that texts and drives explaining the significant danger in it. Poetry and literary elements was also a major component of quarter 2.
Semester 2
In Semester 2 in English 10, research and sourcing skills were used to explore different problematic topics. A research paper using a number of different sources bringing awareness to the topic, along with ideas to solve it, was then written. Basic grammar skills, such as punctuation and quotes, has been touched as well. Additionally, Elie Wiesel's Night was read and analyzed in quarter 4.
